Join us on Saturday November 1st at 3:00 PM for the Star Wars Unlimited Secrets of Power Prerelease! May the Force be with you.
That's an exciting set! Star Wars: Unlimited - Secrets of Power is the sixth major expansion for the TCG, and it completely shifts the focus of the game from battlefield tactics to political and clandestine warfare.
It's all about espionage, intrigue, and behind-the-scenes manipulation, drawing heavily on the political drama of the late Republic and the covert operations of the early Rebellion (think Clone Wars and Andor).
The new mechanics in Secrets of Power focus on controlling and using hidden information in the game (your hand and your resources), which provides new ways to win beyond traditional combat:
How it Works: Plot is a new keyword that only triggers when you deploy your leader (i.e., flip them from the Leader side to the Unit side).
Effect: When your leader deploys, you can play cards with the Plot keyword that you have placed in your resource area. You still pay the normal cost for the Plot card, and then you replace it with a new card from the top of your deck.
Strategic Impact: This allows players to hide powerful event or unit cards in their resources, turning a leader deployment action into a massive, multi-card turn that can swing the game unexpectedly. Chancellor Palpatine's playstyle heavily utilizes this mechanic.
How it Works: Disclose is an ability that requires you to reveal (or "disclose") a specified number of aspect icons from cards currently in your hand to gain a benefit.
Effect: A card might instruct you to "Disclose Command and Heroism." You must then reveal cards from your hand that collectively contain at least one Command icon and one Heroism icon to satisfy the requirement and trigger the effect (like dealing damage or healing your base).
Strategic Impact: This mechanic creates interesting mind games. You gain an advantage, but you also give your opponent temporary information about your strategy, forcing skillful decision-making. Padmé Amidala's abilities often revolve around damage triggers associated with revealing or discarding cards from your hand.
The set introduces a new token unit: the Spy Token.
Spies are 0/2 (0 power, 2 health) neutral units with the Official trait and the keyword Raid 2. While unassuming, the Raid ability makes them surprisingly effective at pressuring your opponent's base when you focus on generating them in large numbers.
Overall, Secrets of Power promises a much more cerebral and combo-focused style of play, enriching the variety of deck strategies available in Star Wars: Unlimited.
